PLJV recently launched the PlayasWorkForColorado.com website that provides information about playas, the benefits they provide, how to restore and conserve playas, and other resources. The new website was developed in partnership with other Colorado conservation partners as part of the Colorado Playa Collaborative, with funding provided by the Colorado State Land Board.
“Playas are an important part of Colorado’s landscape — supporting hundreds of plant and animal species while also helping recharge our groundwater,” said Lindsey Brandt, Colorado State Land Board Biodiversity Program Manager. “With more than 500 playas estimated on state trust lands alone, we’re proud to support this resource and help make information and assistance more accessible through the Playas Work For Colorado website.”
With the recent addition of the Colorado site, PLJV now maintains state-specific playa conservation websites for four states across the region: New Mexico, Texas, Kansas and Colorado. These tailored platforms make it easier for landowners and conservation partners to access relevant, local information, get assistance, and connect with conservation programs in their area.
Each site includes tools and resources such as interactive maps, playa benefit overviews, recharge and wetness calculators, program eligibility details, and contact information for local partners. Many resources are also available in Spanish.
“As with any website, the content will continue to expand and change as new information becomes available,” said Miruh Hamend, PLJV Marketing Communications Director, “especially when it comes to conservation programs and conservation partners who offer playa restoration assistance.”
If you know of playa conservation programs or have staff you’d like to be listed for any of the four states, contact Miruh Hamend.
