PLJV + ConocoPhillips: 25 Years of Habitat Conservation

In 1990, shortly after Playa Lakes Joint Venture (PLJV) was formed, ConocoPhillips joined the Management Board and helped to create the business foundation of our operations. Twenty-five years later, we celebrate this collaboration which has helped provide 68,000 acres of habitat throughout the region, benefiting 66 priority bird species including Whooping Crane, Greater and Lesser Prairie-Chicken, Mountain Plover, Least Tern, and Northern Pintail. We also take this opportunity to thank all of you, our partners, who are on the ground conserving, restoring, creating and maintaining wildlife habitat!

Thank you to Lisa Brawn, who generously allowed PLJV to use the image of her Northern Pintail woodcut in our 25th Anniversary materials! Lisa has been creating painted woodcut blocks for over twenty years and has been particularly interested in wild birds the past five years. Lisa uses reclaimed and salvaged wood, primarily Douglas Fir beams from the restoration of the century-old Alberta Block in downtown Calgary. This wood is interesting not only in its history, but also in that it is very rustic, with knots, nail holes, and gouges. View and purchase Lisa’s woodcut blocks at
